We spent 14 days at the hotel and there were only a few things that would improve our overall experience. Food and Drinks - the variety of food is sufficient, however, we would welcome to have more tuna on the menu, I recall 3-4 times during our stay.
Accommodation - we had a nice spacious apartment with AC, nothing to complain about, appreciate towel service for the beach Amenities - the gym is sort of shabby, doesn't have an AC. It's a shame, a small investment to outdated equipment would do a great job for visitors. Sea and Beach - the greatest asset of the stay - big waves (3 days no waves), clear water, cool breeze. I would come back just for the ocean. Tip: next door hotel Iberostar didn't have as nice beach as Royal Horizons - there were always really big waves and steeper access to the water. We were glad we stayed at RH.
This is perfect for a relaxing beach holiday. Our room was spacious but simple with a great view from our little bungalow (sea view was at extra but worth it). Bring mosquito repellent and lot of sun creams as it is a hot country. The hotel is on a huge beach with white sand. Winamp 2018. The swimming pool has salty water but beautiful view as well.
The staff at the restaurant, at the reception and at the bars were all really nice, smiling and efficient. Wifi was working okay when needed in the reception area but there was NO wifi in the rooms. Most travellers are either French, Italians or Locals but they were different animation teams if you had a preference. I thought they were all good in their own different style.

The best was that the animators were not pushy so it was up to you to participate or not if you didn't feel like it. No noise in the room, a quiet pool available and tranquillity at the beach. No one is bothering you and if you want to bring gifts, you can just walk a few meters on the beach and find souvenirs. I personally bought great ones from Eva NoStress who was the 3rd kiosk on the right at the beach as she was super smiling and made me cute bracelets for my friends. Overall great place to relax and get a tan. Staff very pleasant, especially at restaurant where they work hard and provide great smiling service.
Freshly cooked food and loads of choice for all diets (meat, fish, veggie). Crepes, pancakes, mini doughnuts, omelettes all cooked to order. Better breakfast than a lot of 4 star hotels in Europe except for no fresh juice in restaurant or bars (all sugary nectar juice-type things) but similar to many other 'clubs' we've tested. Tortuga restaurant was very good, excellent food, presentation and service.
We had a meal included in our stay so no idea of prices apart from a half bottle of good wine at 12€. You can't drink the tap water anywhere but reception sells big bottled water for 2€ for rooms. The animation team was very friendly without being pushy, the kids & ado club animators (Lucie and Camille?) very good - our daughter loved them.
The French and Cap Verdian teams were great. Saw two Italian animators who didn't 't seem to do much. The professional dance team delivered excellent shows in evening and dance/sporting animations throughout the day. The nightclub/discotheque is not staffed (apart from the bar).
You show up and connect your playlist to the equipment. Yes there are a few cats but not loads - we saw two or three at each mealtime and a few in the grounds. They really do not bother you.
Resort mainly frequented by French, Italians and a few Portuguese and Cap Verdians. On the whole respectful guests, not noisy. As in most hotels, towel sun-bed 'unofficial reservation' from rather early in the day without being occupied, often for 3 hours (we timed them!) - we just removed the towels and gave up the beds when the people got back. However there were pretty much enough sunbeds for all, between the beach and main pool. The quiet Zen pool was a nice surprise.
A little smaller but hardly anyone there (20% full) so quiet and good choice of sun beds. WIFI available near the main buildings but signal not so good in many rooms - but hey it's nice not to look a one's phone from dawn till dusk:-) I had to work for a few hours on my computer and WIFI was fine in several places.
For phones (as the pilot warned us!) be wary of telephone network charges. I turned my data roaming off and was on flight mode, just checking calls/texts a couple of times in the week. My partner and I had a good massage in the spa (the spa person came round pool with a half-price special offer for certain times and we decided there and then) but the regular prices are not that expensive. Take a good first aid kit, the one at reception is pretty dire: a half packet of cotton wool and a leaking bottle of antiseptic - literally nothing else. My daughter scraped her leg pretty badly but I used their antiseptic and she was fine.
August temperatures were perfect. 25-30 degrees. Mainly sun, a few clouds, a light breeze. Air con in room worked fine.
In summary, great holiday, no downsides! Beaches was great and beautiful room was big and comfortable bed and pillows. Beach view room Food was great but no option for plant base milk at breakfast time. Plenty option for vegans meals. Drinks are water down.
They cater more to French people So you are on your own if you Cape Verde or American Meet really great workers there at dining room Joanna and her friend always remember how we like our drinks Night entertainment show was good Also thank u for my spa massage Fun team was young kids and the girl was friendly to us I forget everyone name at this time but have pictures of those that treated us great. I was there with my family and stayed for one week.
The Hotel is not so far away from Airport (10 minutes), which is quite small still and funny to see if plane is landing;-). Hotel is quite big but apartments are fitting into landscape. Rooms ( we had a junior suite with beachside view) are clean with a good bathroom and big balcony. Cleaning service every day, really good and friendly service. Big great beach with Atlantic Ocean which is refreshing but not cold. Restaurant is fantastic from breakfast to dinner, so much to eat from fish, pasta and meat and everything else. We had all inclusive service and all meals were really delicious international cuisine.
Also, there is a Beach Restaurants whichever can be reserved directly at reception for a special menu. Reception service is also ok, sometimes they are a bit helpless and not 100% perfect organised like in Europe but hey, that’s Cap verde. No stress is the motto of the island. Many sport activities, good animation program, also for children. Not much to do outside the hotel of course, small city with fish hall, some restaurants, African market with typical tourist stuff and prices.
Boat trips and turtle trips can be booked. We had a super time, we will be back sometimes.Go there, relax and eat a lot and you will be fine:-).
