Error 1719 Windows Installer Xp 64 Bit

  1. Windows Installer Error Code 1719

Hi,I have a problem with the Windows Installer on Windows Server 2008 x64 and it's driving me crazy.I built the server without any problems and installed WSUS 3.1 and Exchange Server 2007. This is a Domain Controller / Global Catalog / DNS / DNCP box too; I have a secondary DC/GC/DNS for backup but as this is just a small lab/learning network there isn't much else.I now have a very odd problem. The 64bit Windows Installer won't work, the 32bit installer is OK. Let me explain.I have downloaded the trial of Data Protection Manager and tried to deploy the client to the main server (DPM is on another box).

The deployment failed and so I tried to install the agent manually on the server. It fails, and when I follow the path to the log file I see in there that there was a problem accessing the Windows Installer service when it tries to install the MSXML 6.0 Parser:MSI (s) (24:98) 20:53:39:218: Product: MSXML 6.0 Parser - Error 1719. The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance. Also, there are two WSUS updates that will not install; when I look in the Windows Application log I see the same 1719 errors telling me that the The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.However.

If I try to run the 32bit DPM client install (I know, it is the wrong one but I am troubleshooting) It does manage to add the Visual C + + components and of course it uses the Windows Installer (32bit) to do this. If I then go to Control Panel / Programs and Features I see two installations of the C + + components, one with x64 in the display name and one without (the 32bit one). I can remove the 32bit one, but when I try to do the same for the 64bit one I get the pesky Windows Installer error.I have verified that I can start the Windows Installer service without errors. When the DPM client installer fails, it is trying to install the MSXML 6.0 Parser; I have tried downloading and installing this manually but, as with the others, I get that darn problem.I have searched all the usual places and found plenty of advice for Windows Installer problems in XP / 2003 / Vista but nothing for 2008. Does anyone have any clues? If not I feel a rebuild coming on!ThanksPaul. Installer

I do know that a recent Windows Update failed after successfully applying a couple of updates then failed during the update of.NET 3.5 SP1 (same update cycle). Now I cannot install anything without getting the 'Windows Installer Service Could Not Be Accessed' error. This server is a PDC with AD, DNS and File/Print services. I am not using the DPM as above. I also tried many different things to resolve this issue with no luck.

The Windows Installer service is/was started/running when the problem began. I tried the advice above, including the registry changes and now the Windows Installer service will no longer run. I want to make sure that I edited the registry properly. The two msiexec executables are in the exact same path as your example above on the C: drive, so I updated the registry per your example.

The ImagePath parameter is now: C:WindowsSystem32msiexec.exe /V and C:WindowsSysWOW64msiexec.exe /V This is the change that now prevents the service from running. The 'and' in the middle is a bit suspicious to me. Is this really correct? I even tried to install the Windows Installer 4.5 from the distributed download with no success (prior to the registry changed above). Is there anyway to completely reinstall this service? This is a production server which I really need to get fixed ASAP.

Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide. I'm having a very similar problem with Windows Server 2008 x64. Unfortunately, exactly when the problem started is unknown. There is a different Reg key that would use 'C:WindowsSysWOW64msiexec.exe /V'. David was just stating what the 2 different values would be.
