I am extra noobish to the whole overclocking scene and always referred to guides or videos from various folks. And here I thought I was running a stable oc on my 8700k. I got some voltage readings that didn't make sense.My specs are as follows:8700k w/ 4.8Ghz @ 1.280v1080Ti at stock speedCorsair H105 AIOAsus z370 ROG Strix-HSeasonic 750w 80 plus Titanium psuI dialed in a manual voltage of 1.280v, to which I thought was stable after using Cinebench, Realbench for 1 hour.

HWinfo gave me that exact at max, with occasional dip to 1.245v at min. I ran with it a few days.Thanks to some great advice by one of our members here, he suggested I push my chip to 5Ghz by loading the Asus profile. I loaded in Windows with no issues, ran Aida64 for about 15 minutes, temps at 84c, with 1.456v. This was the reading I got from HWinfo. I didn't check Aida's reading (I should have). However, I couldn't load up Timespy or Firestrike.

So I tried Realbench and temps went to 93c. I immediately stopped.

I attempted to load 5Ghz manually and I couldn't stay in Windows past 10 sec before it crashed. I loaded my saved 4.8Ghz profile and tried 4.9 with a 1.350v. It seemed ok after stress testing with Aida64 for 15 minutes. Temps at max 72c.I dropped the voltage down to 1.320v at 4.9. It's then I noticed the Aida64 voltage tab where I'm getting readings of 1.380 to as high as 1.515v! HWinfo insists that my max core voltage is at 1.320v as I thought it should be. I opened the Aida64 CPUID and it was showing the exact same, nothing close to what HWinfo was reading.

If Aida's reading was accurate all this time, could that mean I was running insane voltages with my 4.8Ghz profile? The temps on both Aida and HWinfo were the only readings that matched 100%. And when I ran with the 4.8 oc, I saw no issues on temps going past 65c when gaming. I loaded up stock speed on the chip, and ran Aida again, and the voltage reading was well under 1.100v.I immediately shut down my system and took out the board and plan to replace it.On stock, Cinebench scores 193/1379 (single/threaded), TimeSpy 9182, max temp 65c, with 1.190v.On 4.8Ghz pro, MCE disabled, LLC lvl 1, manual 1.280v, Cinebench scores 205/1490, I don't remember my Timespy stat, as I'm not home.On 5Ghz pro, everything on auto, Cinebench score 211/1584, but could not load up Timespy or Firestrike, max temp 84c, with 1.456vWhere could I have gone wrong?.
